For works created after January 1, 1978. Pursuant to the 1976 U.S. Act, all works created after January 1, 1978 are afforded a term of statutory copyright beginning at the work's creation and enduring for the life of the author plus fifty years after his death. 17 U.S.C. §302(a). The basic term of the author plus fifty years is equally applicable to unpublished and published works.
